1
Heat oven to 350°F. Generously spray 9x5-inch loaf pan with baking spray with flour, or grease pan with shortening and lightly flour.
2
In small bowl, stir together cream cheese and 1/4 cup of the granulated sugar until smooth. Add 1/4 cup of the Nutella® spread; stir until smooth.
3
Unroll 1 can of dough into 1 large rectangle. Cut rectangle into 6 rows by 3 rows, to make 18 pieces. Place 1 teaspoon cream cheese mixture in middle of each rectangle. Fold dough over filling (do not stretch dough), and gently pinch to seal around filling; roll into ball. Repeat with second can of dough.
4
In small bowl, place remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Roll dough balls in sugar until coated. Place sugar-coated dough balls in pan. Sprinkle any remaining sugar over dough.
5
Mix melted butter and brown sugar. Pour butter mixture on top.
6
Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until deep golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Cool in pan 5 minutes. Loosen from edges of pan with metal spatula. Turn upside down onto serving plate, replacing any biscuit pieces and caramel from pan.
7
Spoon remaining 1/4 cup Nutella® spread into 1-quart resealable food-storage plastic bag. Cut small opening from 1 corner of bag, and drizzle over top of warm monkey bread. Pull apart to serve. Serve warm.
Expert Tips
- If you store your Nutella® spread in the refrigerator, let it to come to room temperature first. This makes it much easier to mix in with the softened cream cheese.
- Be gentle when you’re sealing up your rectangles of dough around the cream cheese mixture. You want to avoid stretching and tearing the dough, if possible.
