Fresh turmeric root, grated ginger and almond milk create a soothing golden milk that's better for you than a cup of hot chocolate! It's not as spicy as the traditional turmeric milk known as Haldi Ka Doodh but it's still a great way to introduce more turmeric into your diet. Agave nectar can be used in place of honey for a vegan drink.

  • 1 (4cm) piece fresh turmeric root, peeled and grated
  • 1 (4cm) piece fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 250ml almond milk
  • 1 pinch ground turmeric
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon

  1. Combine turmeric root, ginger root and honey together in a bowl, crushing the turmeric and ginger as much as possible.
  2. Heat almond milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Once small bubbles begin to form around the edges, reduce heat to low. Transfer about 2 tablespoon milk to turmeric mixture to allow mixture to soften and honey to melt into a paste-like mixture.
  3. Mix the turmeric paste into milk in the saucepan; raise temperature to medium-low and cook, stirring continuously, until fully combined. Blend with an immersion blender for a smooth texture.
  4. Pour turmeric tea into a mug and top with ground turmeric and cinnamon.

Note:

Pregnant or nursing women, young children or diabetics should consult their doctor before consuming turmeric.

Turmeric:

Turmeric can stain skin, utensils, chopping boards and work surfaces.

Fantastic! This was my first time using fresh turmeric root and I picked a winner of a recipe! I can see myself making this over and over again. No changes needed. Fresh turmeric is so much better than powdered, so I highly recommend you try this, even if you don't care for the powdered form. To save time, I just strained the milk into my cup instead of getting my immersion blender out. And since this only makes one cup, I suggest you double the recipe because you will love it! I ended up topping off my cup with extra almond milk. Delicious!-06 Nov 2016

Wonderful for sleep and inflammation. Turmeric is a traditional Ayurvedic herb. However, if you want to follow Ayurvedic principles, do not cook honey. It should only be added when the drink is warm and not hot. Otherwise it makes a sticky substance in the body called ama that gums up the works.. Hence, only 4 stars.-02 Jan 2017

Turmeric Milk also known as Haldi Doodh is excellent when there are seasonal changes in weather, when you or your children are suffering from cough and cold or even a congestion.

Turmeric Milk (Haldi Doodh also known as Golden Milk) is a very popular medicinal ayurvedic drink that is had most often when you have a bad cold or a cough. But personally I make sure I serve this herbal spice drink to my children when the seasons are about to change.

This helps build the immune system, at the same time helps fight any cold or cough that might onset. This magic drink has over the decades been known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Note: you can use fresh turmeric or even turmeric powder (Haldi Powder) to make the turmeric milk although the best medicinal benefits come from using the freshly grated turmeric root.

Try having a warm glass of Turmeric Milk just before you go to bed this will help minimize the coughs and the uneasy cold allergies.


Turmeric Milk

Turmeric in your milk? Are you cray cray? Yes! Don’t tell the other nut milks, but this recipe is my favorite. Once upon a time, the only thing I knew about turmeric was that it had a brilliant yellow-orange color, which makes it a perfect addition to tofu scrambles. But with the right combination of supporting spices and sweetness, this turmeric twist is out of sight. Plus, it contains incredible anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric milk can be served cold or warmed on the stovetop for an after-dinner treat.

  • 3 cups almond milk
  • 4 ounces coconut milk (full or reduced fat)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric powder or 1-inch fresh turmeric root, peeled
  • 1/2-inch piece ginger, peeled
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

1. Blend all ingredients together in a blender till smooth. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Recipe #1. Simple Turmeric Milk Recipe

Boil 2 cups of milk and add 1 tbsp. of organic turmeric to it. Allow this to boil for 15 minutes and then allow to mix and cool. Once it becomes lukewarm, drink it. This would give 1 serving. I use this brand of powered turmeric.

Recipe #2. Turmeric Milk Recipe With Black Pepper

To make this health drink, simply boil 2 cups milk & add turmeric. Also add 1 tbsp of black pepper (powdered) or 2 balls if you are using unpowered ones, and allow to boil. Cool off and drink when lukewarm. Black pepper can help in better absorption of turmeric milk.

Black pepper is extremely beneficial for health. I use this brand of blackpepper for making turmeric milk.

Recipe #3: Turmeric Milk With Ginger

Just like previous recipes, you can have to prepare this milk. But in addition to turmeric, you should also grate and add half inch of ginger.

It would help in enhancing the flavor of this recipe and also help if you are suffering from cough or cold.

If you don’t have freshly grated ginger available, use this powered ginger for this recipe, it works really well.

Recipe #4: Turmeric Milk With cinnamon

Cinnamon when added to the mixture, can increase the turmeric milk benefits.

That’s why if you want to get more benefits from this elixir, then add a pinch of cinnamon or half tbsp on cinnamon when boiling and drink it once it becomes lukewarm.
